TIDY Tavi celebrated its final expedition of 2015 with mince pies and mulled wine at Meadowlands Leisure Centre recently, before setting off onto the streets of Tavistock to pick up litter and other rubbish.
Sixteen volunteers, some sporting seasonal decorations, turned out in cloudy and breezy but mainly dry conditions.
Most of the town centre was visited along with the entire length of the A386 from Anderton Lane to Dolvin Road.
A spokesperson for Tidy Tavi said: ‘Large numbers of empty drinks cans, particularly of the Coca Cola variety, were found poked into hedges and in gutters in many places.
‘Another perpetual problem, that of polythene disposable gloves blown from Morrison’s filling station, was evident yet again all along Plymouth Road.
‘These items were found in large numbers blocking drains in some places and even appear to have accumulated in gardens as far away as the Tiddybrook estate.
‘Tidy Tavi organisers would like to express their sincere thanks to all the volunteers who have given their valuable time to help during 2015. Gratitude is also expressed to all the organisations and businesses that have supported Tidy Tavi’s efforts in various ways during the year.’
Tidy Tavi’s next outing will take place on Saturday January 9, rather than the first Saturday of 2016 – as it falls on January 2. Anyone wishing to help should meet at Meadowlands at 10am.
