THIS year?s Dartmoor Folk Festival promises to be more child-friendly than ever before with special sessions organised for youngsters. On the Saturday morning of the festival, children can take part in broom and step dance workshops, starting at 10am, where they can learn about a fun and energetic part of Dartmoor tradition. And on the Saturday afternoon, they will be able to put their new hopping, tapping, and skipping skills to the test in the dance competitions. The Sunday will see an entirely new session for children held from 10am until noon in the hall of South Tawton Primary School. There will be the chance to learn some circus skills with the Plough Youth Theatre?s Rob Pudner, take part in a craft workshop with Cuckoo Crafts, or enjoy magical storytelling with Michael Dacre of Raventales. Rob Pudner said he was very excited about the new session: ?The school is a great new venue, and this is just the beginning of a new fringe festival for children, which we hope to develop in future years.? On the Sunday evening, Rob will also be taking part in the popular children?s concert in the Victory Hall from 7pm until 9pm, which he will co-host with children?s entertainers the Ticklish Allsorts, introducing guest appearances from some of the festival performers. Numbers will be limited for some of the sessions so families are advised to arrive early to be sure of a place. Most of the children?s events cost just £2 each ? further details can be found on www. dartmoorfolkfestival.co.uk, or by writing to Mrs J White, Sunnyhill, South Zeal, EX20 2JL.
