YOUNG musicians from Mount House School in Tavistock came away from this year's Saltash Music, Speech and Drama Festival with a record haul of 37 trophies. Several award winners from the school were also selected to perform in the gala concert at the end of the Festival. Many individual and group performances by the pupils were praised by the adjudicators. The school orchestra was awarded a mark of 89, the highest of any ensemble at this year's festival. This mark was equalled by Flora Zajicek in the Violin Solo Grade 4/5, and no fewer than 13 performances by Mount House pupils were awarded distinctions as 'excellent performances technically and artistically'. Gill Waters, director of music at Mount House said: 'The Saltash Festival has proved to be a very worthwhile experience for the children. 'The number of awards they won is a just reward for all their hard work and preparation over the past few weeks. 'The constructive comments from the adjudicators should help the boys and girls to improve still further, and we're all looking forward to going back to Saltash again next year.'
