FRIENDS of felines can find out more about the work of Hatherleigh, Okehampton and District branch of Cats Protection at a coffee morning later this month.

Cats Protection Week runs from September 11-18 and the Hatherleigh and Okehampton branch are celebrating in style with a coffee morning on Saturday, September 11, from 9.30am to noon at the Charter Hall, in Okehampton.

?Cats Protection Week is the ideal time for people of all ages to get involved with the charity and have some fun,? said Pat Sawyer, branch secretary.

?Anyone interested in finding out more about our work, and the lovely cats in our care, should come along to our coffee morning.

?It?s going to be a good event,? she added.

There will be a raffle and bric-a-brac and other stalls, plus the chance to get your paws on Cats Protection merchandise.

Cats Protection rescues and rehomes stray and unwanted cats. During the last year, the Hatherleigh and Okehampton branch found new homes for 189 cats and kittens.

Volunteers will be flat out during Cats Protection Week trying to find homes for the male cats in their care.

?We have got some really handsome chaps here who would like nothing better than to find a caring new owner during Cats Protection Week,? Pat said.

?We are experts in finding the right pet for the right owner, so most circumstances can be catered for, from a single man seeking a perfect low maintenance pet, to an elderly person in need of a relaxed and friendly companion,? she added.

Among the cats the branch is trying to rehome is Wee Willie Winkie, a mature black/white cat of middle years, who would prefer a kind but outdoor home. The charity also has lots of young male kittens in need of a new place to live.

The branch also undertakes other work including neutering programmes, feral work ?very important in this rural area ? and fostering older cats.
