ANGRY residents of Exeter Road and West View Road met Okehampton Town Councillors on Monday night to express their concerns at the scale of new houses being built at the old Laburnham site.

Around a dozen residents attended the meeting to voice their fears about the overbearing nature of the new development in a field behind their houses.

Cllr Tony Leech told residents the town council had opposed the plans at every stage because of its concerns about the development, but it was only a consultee to the local planning authority, West Devon Borough Council.

Resident Ken Smith spoke to the Times last week and invited borough and town councillors to visit his home and see for themselves the impact of the development.

Mr Smith claimed the ground floor of the new houses was not yet complete but the structure was already blocking out the morning sun.

The town council agreed to write a letter to West Devon Borough Council asking it to attend a site meeting to discuss the residents? concerns.
