OKEHAMPTON farming family the Luxtons enjoyed a very successful run at the recent pre-Christmas livestock shows. Dudley Luxton and son Stuart have shown cattle at Totnes, Newton Abbot, Liskeard, Wadebridge and most recently Exeter in the last month. The Luxton?s had the overall champion at Newton Abbot and reserve champion at Totnes, as well as a host of other rosettes for prizes in their classes. At the prestigious Exeter show, which is probably the biggest pre-Christmas show in Devon and Cornwall, the Luxton?s were not competitive in the open classes, but did well in the categories for smaller farmers who breed their own cattle. In one section, father and son came up against each other after each of their animals won their class ? on this occasion it was Stuart who came out on top. The recent successes cap an excellent year: the family had a virtual clean sweep in their classes at Chagford Show in August. Next year, they plan to open a retail farm shop, selling beef and lamb.
