Launceston U12s 21 Okehampton U12s 12 SLOW to start, Okehampton allowed Launceston to dictate play for the first ten minutes. From a five yard scrum Launceston went to the short side and scored in the corner. Stung into action Okehampton began to put together several phases of play with good interplay between backs and forwards. From a forward drive up the right first Matt Harding and then Thomas Mallett made ground before transferring the ball to Chris Knott, who ran through the Launceston defence to go over from 20 yards. Launceston continued to use the kick and chase tackle to good effect and after creating confusion in the Okehampton defence went over for another try. From just inside their own half Curtis kicked high towards the Launceston line, good chasing creating mayhem in their opponents? defence. From the resultant scrum quick ball was fed by Mike Heard to Peter Gillard, who skipped through two tackles to score. Curtis converted. In the second half Okehampton continued to run the ball at every opportunity and took the game to Launceston. Several periods of excellent play saw Jamie Hignett, Martin Hann and Jordan Lee all held up on the line by good Launceston defence. Despite the pressure it was Launceston who broke away and scored the deciding try. Training Friday at Club, 6pm; Sunday Exeter at home. Okehampton U11s 7 Launceston U11s 5 THE ?Cornish All-Blacks? went into this game unbeaten this season and, as normal, proved to be a well-organised outfit. The first half was a titanic tussle and although ended 0-0 thrilled the spectators with a standard of rugby expected from players much older. Early in the second half, Okehampton pressed the All Blacks? line and were rewarded when scrum half, Matt Johns, broke blind from a maul and scored in the corner. He converted his own try and Okehampton deservedly led 7-0. Launceston then rallied and consistent pressure saw them drive a maul over to make the score 5-7. The conversion was missed and this, as in rugby at all levels, proved to be the difference between the two teams. The Okehampton defence were fantastic and soaked up the Launceston pressure deep into extra time. Graham Bennie, at hooker, and Buster Francis in the forwards, excelled for Okehampton and Tom Foggarty and Henry Penrose were the backs who particularly caught the eye. Launceston U10s 30 Okehampton U10s 15 THE U10s travelled to play at Launceston, the home of Cornish Rugby. The home team initially used their forwards to dominate play and by the end of the first half had managed to cross the line four times. It was the stout defence by the Okehampton backs that stopped them scoring more times. After half-time Okehampton settled into the game with more control and repeatedly held off attacks. The excellent defensive work by Jordan, Liam, Tom and Edmund was rewarded when they held off the attack and allowed the whole team to surge forward to put Dean over the line twice. The home team managed to power across the line twice more but a brilliant run by Tom supported by Liam took him across the line. Any under 10 (year 5) who is interested in joining the squad phone Ian on 01837 840734 or turn up at training at 6pm on Fridays at the Okehampton all weather pitch. Okehampton U9s 40 Launceston U9s 0 OKEHAMPTON expected a tough game and they got just that, but in a very physical encounter they came out on top. Josh Bickley scored three tries using his speed, as did Will Cooper, having his best game so far. Callum Pritchard burst over the line for one try, and Kyle Burns scored the last. New boys Luke Liversidge and Luke Simmonds both played well and are improving with every game. The whole team played well and supported each other. Launceston U7s 40 Okehampton U7s 40 THIS away fixture saw the under 7s coming away with a well deserved draw which the Launceston referee disagreed with. The Okes, having a squad of 14, played their hosts twice with the scores added together in an end-to-end game, strong breaks made by Reece Peacock, Tom Strawbridge and Talon Burns with their teammates supporting well. Tries by Reece Peacock (2), Tom Strawbridge (2), Talon Burns, Sam Stratton and Rowan Pillivant. Training Friday 6pm and at home to Exeter Saracens on Sunday 11am.
