Devon Cricket League E Division West Yelverton 1st XI v Ashburton YELVERTON got back to winning ways with an excellent 94-run win against visiting Ashburton at Langton Park. Skipper Rob Guy and vice-captain Tim Rutherford returned to lead the side after missing last weekend?s draw at Ashburton. The away skipper won the toss and put the home team into bat on the wet pitch. The Ashburton seamers proved hard to get away but Paul Farnham (44) and Geoff Brain (16) put together a patient 45 run opening partnership to see off the new ball. Sanjiv Shrivastav (26) and Tim Rutherford (20) accelerated the innings in before Yunus Suleman (22) and Joel Avery (15) put on an excellent 38 run partnership for the seventh wicket to boost the score up to 178-6. The pick of the Ashburton bowlers were Topping (2-56) and Marshall (4-34). Yelverton?s opening bowlers Shrivastav (4-21) and Avery produced a testing opening spell for the Ashburton batsmen and only Phil Pascoe (25) managed to score more than 10 runs. Dan Vince (4-16) followed up his excellent bowling from last weekend with another frugal spell of medium pace seamers and Ashburton were shot out for 84 when Shrivastav returned to remove the middle stump of the Ashburton number 11 for a golden duck. With Exeter Civil Service losing to Keyham and Buckfastleigh, Yelverton returned to the top of the table. l This weekend Yelverton travel to second placed Kingskerswell. Devon Cricket League C Division Yelverton Second XI v Plymstock YELVERTON slumped to a disappointing loss against top of the table Plymstock on Saturday. Skipper Tony Carter won the toss and inserted Plymstock on a wicket saturated by the rain of the previous day. The wicket played extremely low and slow and Plymstock were soon reduced to 38-3 with skipper Carter (3-15) causing all sorts of problems. Carter was well supported by Ben Vince (2-34 off 11) and Chris Pearson (1-20 off 11) as Plymstock were held to 144-9 off 46 overs. The Yelverton response started brightly with Pete Garland striking several early boundaries but the introduction of former Devon bowler M Record proved to be decisive as he blew away the Yelverton middle order in a spell of 6-21 off 13 overs. Only 17 year old Paul James with an accomplished 35 and Jerry Warland (15 no) offered much resistance and Yelverton were bowled out for a mere 88 in the 37th over to lose by 56 runs. l This week Yelverton play Heathcoat at Langton Park (2pm start). Moorland Bats Tamar League inter division Yelverton 3rd XI v Bridestowe YELVERTON?S run of good form continued with a 5 wicket win against visiting Bridestowe Seconds at Crapstone on Saturday. Asked to bat on the damp surface, the Bridestowe batsmen had no answer to the bowling of Geraint Heath (3-29), Kevin Vince (3-8) and Ben Spear (2-10) and were dismissed for 65. Ricky McDowell (24) and skipper Brian Spear (24) led the reply for Yelverton and despite a mid order wobble passed the Bridestowe total for the loss of 5 wickets. l This week Yelverton entertain Holsworthy at Buckland CC?s Crapstone Ground (2pm start).
