TAVISTOCK Farmers? Market has been nominated as a finalist in the Best Local Produce Awards run by Taste of the West and Devon Life.
Along with two other finalists Tavistock Farmers? Market has been chosen by the general public to receive this prestigious award.
The award ceremony, on Thursday, May 20, will be held during the evening of the first day of Devon County Show at a gala dinner and reception.
This will be attended by local dignitaries with the guest speaker being Michael Caine, of Gidleigh Park Hotel. Attending on behalf of Tavistock Farmers? Market will be Mrs Gill Gorbutt, of the association, and David Evans, market manager.
?This is a real feather in the cap of Tavistock, already voted the best market town in the UK? said Mr Evans.
?We acknowledge all the help and assistance we have been given over the last three years by the members of Tavistock Town Council and town clerk Col Roger Howard and his staff.?
Mr Evans said to get into the final three was ?an unbelievable achievement? as Devon had more than 30 farmers? markets on a regular basis.
?Credit must go to the producers who turn out in all weathers to ensure that the produce they offer is of the highest and freshest quality ? and to the individuals that had the foresight to get the farmers? market up and running in the first place.?
Mrs Gorbutt said Tavistock was a market town everyone could be proud of with its veriety of shops and pannier market. ?Now, coupled with these long established businesses Tavistock Farmers? Market has shown how Bedford Square can be used to the benefit of the town as a whole.?
The market is held on the second and fourth Saturday of every month in Bedford Square from 9am to 1pm.
