MANY members of the farming community of both Sampford Courtenay and Honeychurch attended the Plough Sunday service at St Andrew's on January 8.

Local young farmers' club members pushed the old, lovingly restored, horse-drawn plough up the aisle and carried a sack of wheat and a sample of soil into the chancel for a blessing by the Rev Nick Weldon.

The hymns included We Plough the Fields and Scatter and the first lesson was read by Karen Squire.

After the service the congregation, led by the choir, gathered in the Square where young farmers Justin Dunn, Gary Stoneman and David Weeks had parked their tractors, complete with five or six furrow ploughs. Prayers were said and a blessing given for a fruitful farming year.
