WALKHAMPTON?S Lady Modiford?s School said goodbye to its headteacher of 19 years at the end of the Easter term. Jim Knight became head after Easter 1987. At the time there were only 52 children in two classes which gave him the chance to meet all the parents individually. During his 19 years the school has gone from 48 pupils at the beginning of September 1987 to 111 pupils, along with 22 full and part time staff, in 2006. January 1997 saw the school?s first ever Ofsted inspection, and because of Mr Knight?s leadership and the dedicated team of staff they received an excellent report. Celebrations for his last week included a meal with local headteachers at the Horn of Plenty, an Easter egg hunt, and then the whole school were in medieval dress for a presentation.
