A FREEZE in rail fares on the Gunnislake to Plymouth Tamar Valley Line for the second year running has been welcomed by the Tamar Valley Line Working Party.

The working party consists of a partnership of local authorities and others working to promote the line and the places it serves.

While elsewhere in the country, many rail fares will increase from January, Wessex Trains which operates the Tamar Valley Line and other branch lines throughout the South West has decided to freeze fares on its services.

Working party secretary Richard Burmingham, manager of the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership, said: ?The fares freeze is extremely good news ? this will be the second year fares have remained the same on the Tamar Valley Line, and that can only help in our efforts to encourage greater use of the line.?

The Tamar Valley Line Working Party comprises Devon and Cornwall County Councils, West Devon Borough Council, Caradon District Council, Calstock and Bere Ferrers Parish Councils, Plymouth City Council, Wessex Trains and the Devon and Cornwall Rail Partnership.

The working party promotes the line and seeks improvements to services and facilities.

Information about train times and fares is available by calling National Rail Enquiries on 08457 484950, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
