STAFF at Tavistock's Brook Street Co-op have gone the extra mile to support Tavistock Area Support Services (TASS) by raising funds towards a new wheelchair accessible vehicle for the charity.

Baking cakes, arranging fun days and taking part in sponsored activities all added up to a £500 contribution to TASS funds. Customers also supported the effort by donating their loose change at the checkouts.

TASS manager Andy Lyle said: 'Tavistock Area Support Services is a local charity delivering a real difference to older and disabled people.

'The Co-op has been a long time supporter of TASS, and we were thrilled when Jo asked us if we would like to be their 2014 charity of the year.

'It has enabled TASS each month to highlight the various services we provide and we do appreciate the hard work the staff have put in raising money and especially the support from the customers'.

Co-op manager Jo Arnold said: 'It has been a true team effort with everyone pulling together to support such a worthwhile local charity.'

TASS hopes to have the new vehicle on the road by the autumn.
