CHILDREN from Okehampton Youth Club have been showing the club in its true colours by designing an eye-catching poster to be displayed around town.

The youngsters were taking part in a competition to create a poster to advertise the youth club family disco being held next month.

The winning entry was by Joely Forester, whose bold red poster caught the eye of mayor of Okehampton Cllr Christine Marsh, when she came to the Okehampton Times offices last Friday to judge the competition. The second prize went to Sarah Amos, and third prize was awarded to Shane Turner. Each of the winners received some colouring equipment.

The disco takes place on Friday, November 21, at the Conservative Club in Okehampton from 7.30pm to 11pm. As well as the disco, there will be a buffet, bar and raffle, with all proceeds in aid of Okehampton Youth Club,

Tickets can be bought at Chastey Shoes in East Street, or from the youth club which meets on Wednesdays between 6.30pm and 8.30pm, at Okehampton College Community Centre, and is for children aged from 8 to 13.

Paul Chastey of Okehampton Youth Club said the disco was taking place on the same evening as the Children In Need appeal and a collection for the BBC?s annual charity appeal would also be made on the night.
