A COUPLE from Yelverton celebrated their golden wedding anniversary surrounded by family and friends recently. Robert Edwards, originally from Nottingham, married Barbara Sherrell at St Stephen's Church, London, on April 11. Barbara was the eldest daughter of well-known resident John Sherrell of Wilminstone Farm, Tavistock. She was a secretary in London when she married chartered accountant Robert, and was a member of the Royal Commonwealth Association. She was also a former headgirl of Tavistock School and graduated from Westfield College, London University, with a degree in modern languages. After they married they moved to London, where they lived for 40 years before they returned to West Devon to live in Yelverton. Together they travelled all over the world. They have five children, four boys and one girl, and 13 grandchildren. They celebrated their anniversary in two stages — a family dinner at Yelverton Golf Club, and a celebration at Holy Cross Church, Yelverton — where a group of ten people, including their children and grandchildren, had formed a special choir with four local singers, to sing to the congregation and the happy couple.
