THREE Tavistock residents are inviting people to join them on a sponsored summer solstice walk this month, to raise funds for charities very close to their hearts.

Will Crosby, Mike Gray and Julie Peake  have organised the walk from  Moretonhamstead to Tavistock to raise money for Cancer Research UK and The British Heart Foundation.

The walk, which will hopefully become an annual event, will take place on Saturday, June 18.

All three have experienced recent tragedy. Will's wife  Harriet Crosby, died at the age of 41 from cancer. Julie's husand  Bayard Peake died at 41 from heart disease, and Mike recently lost his wife Jenny to cancer.

The walk will start  at noon from the White Horse Inn at Moretonhamstead. The trek is designed to offer a challenge to young and old, as walkers have the choice of routes.

The longest is 20 miles from The White Hart Inn car park. Then there is 13 miles from The Warren Inn, leaving at 3pm, 11 miles from Postbridge, leaving at 4pm, six miles from The Two Bridges, leaving at 5pm, two miles from The Dartmoor Inn at Merrivale, leaving at 7pm, and one mile from Cox Tor car park, leaving at 7.30pm.

The walk will then conclude at Moortown, where family entertainment including music and a barbecue will welcome all walkers.

Families and individuals are all welcome — family entry £15, individual £5.

T shirts designed by Amy Anstee will also be available to commemorate this inaugural event.

Anyone who would like more information about the event should call Will Crosby on 07879 882953.
