OKEHAMPTON is fast gaining its Fairtrade status, thanks to ongoing support from businesses and shoppers in the town.

For the past year the Okehampton Fairtrade Group has worked steadily to encourage people to get behind the campaign to help turn Okehampton into a Fairtrade town.

With many outlets selling Fairtrade goods of all descriptions, even businesses that do not sell the items are showing their support by supplying Fairtrade tea and coffee to their staff.

Member of the Fairtrade Group, Kate Thompson, said: We are delighted that Waitrose have kindly agreed that we may have a table in their tent at the Okehampton Show.

We will be able to distribute information about Fairtrade and show the impact simple choices we can all make, have for third world producers.

We look forward to meeting and talking with the people of Okehampton to update them on the bid for Fairtrade town status, and we hope to achieve this by late Autumn.

Members of the Fairtrade Group will also hand out car stickers to those who want to show their support for the campaign.
