Taunton/Cullompton Ladies U18s 15
Tavistock RFC Ladies U18s 14
IN the closing minute of the match, Tavistock sportingly agreed to take a player off, after a Taunton player was injured and had to leave the field. With the last play of the game, Taunton broke through and scored a try to gain a one point lead and win the match.
After withstanding an early Taunton onslaught, Tavistock began to get the better of the loose and set pieces and accurate tactical kicking by Robynne Honey gave Tavistock good territorial advantage.
From the restart after a 15 minute delay due to a potentially serious injury to a Cullompton player, Tavistock pushed forwards deep into the Taunton half. A penalty was awarded and Tavistock decided to run the ball. Kirsty McCall burst through, but was stopped short of the line. The ball was recycled quickly through Sarah Daymond's hands and out to Elspeth MacKellar to run in under the posts. Robynne Honey added the points.
Taunton came back with gusto, and broke through the Tavistock defensive line to score out wide on the right to make it 5-7 at half time.
In the second half, Tavistock, with the wind in their faces, kept the ball close. When it did come out, Elspeth MacKellar was again on hand to run in the points with Robynne Honey to convert.
With 10 minutes to go, Tavistock were deservedly nine points ahead, when Taunton broke through to score and in the last minute managed to score again to steal the narrow victory.
The powerhouse second row of Kelly Budden and Ellen Megicks with strength from Clara Nielson set the platform for the match, but Robynne Honey was Tavistock's player of the match.
