'HERE and Far' of Tavistock's Paddons Row shopping mews has received a silver award at the 2014 South West Fairtrade Business Awards.
The owners of the ethical home and gift shop were delighted to receive recognition for their commitment to Fairtrade as they celebrate their first year of business on March 12.
Kat Piper, Here and Far's founder, said: 'It was great to get this award and meet so many other inspiring South West businesses all trying to make a difference to people's lives in the developing world.
'Knowing where things are made and under what conditions is so important to us. By stocking Fairtrade gifts and homewares as well as items made by local artists and craftspeople, we can be sure the makers are getting paid a fair price for their hard work.'
The awards were presented by ethical expert at The Observer and The Guardian, Lucy Siegle, at an awards ceremony on March 6 at City Hall in Bristol.
The competition, open to offices, shops and universities across the southwest, has been running for three years.
It is organised by Bristol Fairtrade and is sponsored by The Co-operative.
The aim of the awards is to increase sales of and support for Fairtrade among local businesses, by promoting businesses that support Fairtrade and encouraging others to do more.
Natasha Schock, co-owner of Here and Far, said: 'We were thrilled to receive the award, and are delighted that Fairtrade businesses are being recognised in this way.
'It is important that consumers know the difference they can make to other people's lives, just by being able to make informed choices about their purchases.'
