WORKS to improve parking and turning facilities at Tavistock Bus Station and resurface the area have been given approval by West Devon Borough Council's planning committee.
The plans for the station in Plymouth Road include replacing the damaged brick paving, which is not considered robust enough to cope with the current use with the combination of concrete parking bays, and asphalt for the running areas.
Materials used in sections of a wall within the site are to be re-used in the creation of a turning space for the buses and existing granite kerbs and setts are also to be retained.
Parking bays for buses will be separated from the pedestrian waiting areas by cast iron railings and alterations within the adjacent car park include the realignment of two parking bays and the creation of an extra bay.
The planning committee was told that the current failed paving was having an impact on the surface water drainage and had to be replaced.
