RUGBY is played by all boys at Mount House School from the moment they enter the prep school at seven years of age. Despite the odd game as eight year olds, matches and tournaments are first encountered when the boys reach nine.
For most of the boys the first tournament in which they represent the school is the St. Peter?s, Lympstone.
The tournament?s first game last week against Plymouth College should have been a little closer but superb tackling and a determined attack resulted in a comfortable win. Tries by Tim Pope (2) and Harry Heal meant that in the end Plymouth College were beaten 15-5.
The next match against King?s Hall, Taunton, was a similar story. Excellent running from Hugh Bayley and Tom Canning resulted in scrum half Harry Heal scoring a hat-trick of tries, leaving the final score Mount House 15 King?s Hall 0.
Stover School provided the next opposition and Mount House soon led with an early try by Tim Pope. However, by this stage, the team were beginning to feel tired and several injuries meant excellent replace-
ments Christian Bond and Dominic Scaglioni made their debuts.
Stover fought back with vigour, and despite good defence led by Louis Ferguson, Julian Bertie and Tom Grennan-Cruise, they scored to draw the game.
The final game against St. Michael?s, Tawstock, provided a great opportunity for the U9s to remain unbeaten. The whole team played with grit and determination but particular mention goes to Tristan Searight and Freddy Jayarajah who battled hard to the ensure a drawn match
Overall, this was a fabulous effort and all the boys played incredibly well. In winning two and drawing two of their matches, the team emerged unbeaten and outright winners of their section of the tournament.
