THE enthusiasm of the teams who entered the five-legged race around the pubs of Okehampton last month has netted a record amount for charity.
The annual race, which is organised by Okehampton Past Tablers Club, involves the fancy-dressed teams of four visiting eight pubs on the race, which starts from Okehampton College. Each member of the team has a drink in every pub, before finishing the race at the Plymouth Inn.
Nigel Bishop, chairman of the club, said he was delighted at the amount raised for Children in Need this year.
'We collected nearly £1,400 — last year it was £1,200 so I think this is a record, which is great,' said Nigel.
'It was a real fun evening and I think the teams deserve a big thank you. Two of the teams actually earned over £300 each in sponsorship — they all worked really hard.'
