AN army cadet from Lifton will be travelling to the Yukon this summer — one of only 12 cadets in the country to take part in a six-week leadership course.
Lance Cpl David Heath, 15, will be joining 120 Canadian cadets on the course, which involves climbing, abseiling, a four-day canoe trip, four-day patrol and a range of other skills.
If he successfully completes the course, he will gain the cadet leader instructor qualification.
He may also get the chance to visit Alaska and the trip finishes up with four days sightseeing in Vancouver before flying home to England.
David is a student at Tavistock College and attends the army cadets at Crelake Barracks in Pixon Lane every Monday and Wednesday.
Any youngsters between the age of 13 and 18 who would like to join the cadets is welcome to come along to the sessions, held between 7.30pm and 9.30pm.
