Thorgmorton Cup (League Cup) third round

Penzance 1

Tavistock AFC 4

(after extra time)

THIS game on Monday started with both sides evenly matched with few chances being created by either side, Penzance opened the scoring as a result of Tavistock defender Matt David giving away a free kick on the edge of his own box.

After 18 minutes Johnny Ludlum's free kick was blocked by Meeds in the Tavistock goal, then he blocked Sam Cooper's follow up shot, only to see Ross Pope drill the ball into the roof of the net.

Tavistock came back after a great shot by Lee Blatchford thundered into the net from 15 metres in the 53rd minute.

The turning point of the game came after 86 minutes when Ludlum was sent off for his second yellow card offence.

With Tavistock using subs Ben Davies and Paul Adcock in extra time it was Adcock that hooked the ball home from a metre out after Andy Butcher in the Penzance goal failed to gather Adam Carter's shot in the 105minute to make it 1-2 to the visitors.

Both subs combined well to make the game safe for Tavistock with a Davies cross finding Adcock to finish with a stooping downwards header and into the corner of the net in the 113th minute.

Tavistock wrapped the game up four minutes later when Shane Krac ran through the middle of the Penzance defence and hit a great shot via the inside of the Penzance post to make the final score 1-4 and Tavistock will now face Plymouth Parkway at Langsford Park on Wednesday, January 24 in the quarter-finals of the Thorgmorton Cup.
