Herald Cup (after extra time) Chagford 7 Staverton 3 BOTH teams started this quarter final match as if it was the final itself with Chagford coming out on top in the early exchanges. Staverton opened the scoring but this was cancelled out by Whatley's instinctive left-foot finish for Chagford. Defensive and goalkeeping errors accounted for the next goal for Staverton who finished the first half the stronger of the two teams. The start of the second half saw Chagford in a more determined mood, and after a good spell of inter-play, Davis put the ball into the Staverton net to equalise for Chagford. A good hard battle ensued for much of the second half and Crowther-Smith put Chagford into the lead with ten minutes of the match to go. This was the way it stayed until the last minute of the game where a massive defensive error gave Staverton a late equaliser, forcing extra time in the gloom of a December afternoon. The first half of extra time kicked off and Chagford went on the attack. Within five minutes a well worked move down the right hand side saw Potter cross for substitute Mortimore to slot into the back of the net. Shortly after the restart a scuffle in the middle of the park saw one player from each side dismissed. Chagford were soon to go 5-3 up when Potter notched after another good run down the right. In the second half of extra time and with the light fading, the Crowther-Smith brothers managed to pick up a goal apiece. The final score, Chagford 7, Staverton 3, put the home side through to their first ever semi-final of the Herald Cup.
