TIDY Tavi volunteers have been out and about in the community again, recently extending their activities beyond their monthly Saturday morning litter picking expeditions.

The group is experimenting with midweek outings, the first of which took place yesterday (Wednesday).

A spokesman for Tidy Tavi said: 'It is hoped that these ventures will be suitable for all those potential volunteers who are keen to help but tend to be busy on Saturday mornings. It is also hoped that some regulars will be able to participate too.'

In another venture, Jane Miller kindly represented Tidy Tavi at the Alexander Centre by giving a well-received talk on the organisation's activities to a group of adults with learning difficulties.

Elaine McMahon also helped out with her litter dog 'Womble', who demonstrated her ability to sniff out and retrieve empty drinks cans and other items of rubbish.

Participants were also given the opportunity to try using litter pickers on various items of rubbish, deliberately scattered for their benefit.

Because the first Saturday of April falls in the middle of the Easter holidays this year, the monthly litter pick will be postponed until Saturday, April 11. Anyone willing to help out should meet as usual at the Meadowlands Leisure Centre at 10 am.
