WITH the appetite for local, seasonal produce continuing to rise, the Royal Horticultural Society kicks off its 2011 Grow Your Own Campaign on the weekend of March 26 to 27 with two days of activities at RHS Garden Rosemoor.

The event is designed to inspire everyone to have a go at 'growing your own' and to celebrate the start of the growing year.

Rosemoor's gardening specialists will give short demonstrations in the walled fruit and vegetable garden throughout the day, covering digging, composting, seed sowing and glasshouse growing.

Medwyn Williams, chairman of the National Vegetable Society, the Welsh Vegetable Society and winner of eleven gold medals at Chelsea for his displays, plus the prestigious 'Presidents Award' for his magnificent display of champion vegetables at Chelsea in 2010, will be at Rosemoor both days and will give an illustrated talk titled 'Growing for Gold' at 11.30am each day.  He will be on hand after his talk to give advice.

There are also drop-in seed sowing workshops for children in two sessions each day to include making pots out of bio-degradable paper, filling them with compost and planting with quick-growing seeds.

Local WI cookery judge and college home economics lecturer, Penny McRoberts will be in the marquee, demonstrating a selection of quick and easy recipes using fresh vegetables.
