STUDENTS from Okehampton have been sampling the delights of one of Europe's most cosmopolitan and historic cities. AS level students from Okehampton College recently enjoyed a memorable trip to the city of love — Paris — during the recent half term break. Art, history and modern foreign language students spent four days soaking up the sights and sounds of one of the world's most famous cities. The trip aimed to broaden the sixth formers' experience by giving them a taste of unique French culture. Student press officer at Okehampton College, Ashley Clark, said: 'It offered us the chance to relish in the atmosphere of many Parisian markets and restaurants, and to see renowned landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower, the Arc de Triomphe and Notre Dame, all the time absorbing the local way of life. 'Paris is a fantastic city, with so much to do and see. 'It was a cold but fulfilling experience.' At various points throughout the trip the different subject groups split to visit museums and galleries that were relevant to their studied topics. Art students had the chance to admire the impressionist work of Claude Monet and others at the Musee D'Orsay, to view the impressive catalogue of work at the Picasso museum and to take in the assorted wonders, including the Mona Lisa, at La Louvre. History students were also in for a treat as they saw the ornate beauty of the Palace de Versailles and the striking Conciergie Sainte-Chapelle. Mr Smith, history teacher at the college, said the trip was a huge success. He said: 'You can talk about it and describe it but there is nothing quite like actually experiencing Paris for yourself. The students have got a lot out of this visit.'
