RUPERT Stockwin, photographer, Janie Ramsay, ceramicist, and Beverley Nel, painter and printmaker, will be exhibiting at The Plough Arts Centre in Torrington, later this month. Rupert's abstract nature photography is inspired by the decay in foliage creating skeletons of their former selves. With vivid colour illumination he brings the subject back to life again. Rupert bends the boundaries of macro still life using lighting, lasers, jelly and fibre-optics without the use of digital manipulation to produce stunning results. Devon based ceramicist Janie Ramsay draws inspiration for her stoneware sculptures and vessels from the dramatic landscapes of the South West and from the female nude. Working with a variety of hand building techniques she has recently been experimenting with smoke-firing. 'I find the immediacy and unpredictability of smoke-firing tremendously exciting,' said Janie. Janie has previously exhibited in London, the South East and West, taking part in the Nine Days of Art 2005 and 100 Devon Potters 2006. Beverley Nel works directly from life; people, places, faces and figures. She is inspired by linear and expressive figurative drawing as well as the more objective paint and pastel tonal studies of the face. Beverley said: 'Recently I have been developing my art through printmaking, oil painting and mixed media — with the continuous drive to capture and express the pulse of life.' See the Ink, Earth and Oil exhibition at The Plough from from April 24 to May 25.
