OKEHAMPTON Squash Club first team were away to Torquay last week and with Arnie Searle and Martin Leyton out it looked as if they would struggle.
But excellent wins from Donald Rooke at 1, Andy Glossop at 2 and Ben Jones at 4 gave Okehampton a 14 points to 10 victory.
Andy, who has not been at his best form this season, played really well to win his match 3-2. Donald at 1 was 8-1 down but came back and took the game 10-8 then went on to win the match 3-0. Ben had a close fought contest to defeat his opponent 3-2.
The second team were also playing at home, to Lenwood. Dennis Edwards lost at 5 3-0, Steve Adkins won at 4 3-1, Ben Jones beat his opponent 3-1 - a good win for Ben, finding his form when needed - Robert Barkwell won his match 3-2, and Ian Pitts just lost 3-2, giving the second team a 16 points to 10 conquest.
The ladies? team played Newton Abbot 1a and were narrowly defeated three matches to two. Wins came from Sue Stanbury, undefeated this season, and Kirstin Taylor.
