SUNDAY saw the start of the cross-country season with the first Westward League meeting held at St Austell.
Four members of Tavistock Athletic Club turned out for the occasion and although the course was wet after the recent heavy rain the mild, still conditions proved ideal for the runners.
There was only one representative from the Tavistock club in the Under 13 races, with Alex Richards making his debut appearance in the league.
In the Under 15 boys' event both Paul Rowe and Adam Tofield were also running for the first time in the league, but were undaunted by the high standard field.
Both boys got off to a good start with Paul Rowe joining the front runners early in the race. Paul ran strongly staying with the lead runners and finishing in an excellent third place. Adam Tofield also ran well to finish in 22nd place.
In the senior men's event, Steve Groombridge was the only Tavistock AC runner and in a strong field ran well to record one of his best positions in the league, finishing in overall 18th place.
