THERE was pride for Tavistock Jets Football Club this month when one of its former players made his professional league debut.

Ben Camara, 18, turned out for Torquay United in their division 3 fixture against Scunthorpe at Plainmoor.

Ben came on as a substitute ten minutes before full time and made a difference - playing up front on the right he started a move that led to Torquay equalising 1-1. With continued pressure, the Gulls were unlucky not to take all three points.

Ben represented Tavistock Jets at U13 and U14 in the DJM leagues and at U14 and U15 in the South Hams leagues. He moved on to Elm United and later secured an apprenticeship with Torquay United.

A Tavistock Jets spokesman congratulated Ben and said his achievement showed how far young Jets players could go: ?It proves that if you are good enough and determined to undertake the hard work, a professional footballing career is possible from the humble beginnings of West Country junior soccer.?
