MORE than 70 people attended a special talk held at the Eqwest Veterinary Clinic at Lamerton recently ? one of a series of events of special interest to horse riders and owners in West Devon. The latest meeting was on the subject of horse and rider first aid and featured information from Eqwest vet Kieran O?Brian and casualty nurses Anita Treharne and Amanda Todd, who advised on action to take in emergency situations. Donations raised during the evening came to £98.30 and were donated to the Gambia Horse and Donkey Trust. Staff at Eqwest are now in full preparation for their Eqwestrian and Veterinary Fair, which is being held at Duchy College, Stoke Climsland, on Saturday March 11. The day will include a programme of demonstrations involving saddling, rehabilitation schooling and natural training techniques. There will also be lectures by experts from The Laminitis Trust, South West Equine Protection (SWEP) and the International League for the Protection of Horses (ILPH) and talks by physiotherapists, solicitors, insurance specialists and vets. The event will also have plenty to interest younger members of the family with a treasure hunt and quiz and a large range of trade stands, from stabling and feed companies to gift and clothing manufacturers.
