KNIGHTSTONE Tearooms at Yelverton is hosting an 'RAF Harrowbeer Archive/Memorabilia Weekend' this weekend (June 21 and 22), marking the start of Plymouth Armed Forces Week. The event is laid on to make visitors and locals aware of what went on during the 1940s on a stretch of moorland close to Yelverton — how the village was split in half, buildings demolished and roads repositioned to make way for a WWII RAF Fighter Station. On display will be a diorama of the airfield as it would have been in 1943, a copy of the station operation record book (diary) from when Harrowbeer was officially opened to the day it closed and copies of some of the squadron's operational record books and numerous photographs. Visitors can also view a Dart engine, military vehicles, an Anderson shelter, fully restored and fitted as it would have been during  WWII, and an Alan Williams gun turret. On site is a small museum containing artefacts, documents of the period and  RAF uniforms. There will also be aircraft models, games and  toys to buy, a book stall, bottle stall, pick a straw game and a cake stall — all in aid of various charities. The air raid shelter on the airfield will be open to the public and Harrowbeer Interest Group will have display of photographs. There is no admission charge and parking is plentiful. The event will run from 11am until 4pm each day. For further information please contact Michael Hayes on 01822 853679 or http://www.rafharrowbveer-dartmoor.org.uk">www.rafharrowbveer-dartmoor.org.uk
