THERE was a high standard of entries for the Whitchurch Village Produce and Handicraft Show this month, formally opened by Lady Billie Burnett. Billie said she was delighted that, in its second year in the new Whitchurch Village Hall, the show was going so well. After spending some time looking at the entries and talking with the entrants, Billie presented the trophies and congratulated the winners on their high standard. June James, WI president, thanked Kit Thomas, show chairman, Patty Congo, secretary and assistant Jill White, together with all the others who worked so hard to make this year?s show a real success. The judge of the children?s entries, Mary Brock, was delighted at the standard and awarded the prizes to Ben Milligan, Jenny Doidge and Kate Pilkington. Trophy winners were as follows: Goodland Cup, flowers and foliage, Jeanette Russell; Margaret Clark Trophy, floral art, Sylvia Mier; Mary Williams Cup, cookery, Pat Bloodworth; Anthony Trophy, preserves, Angela Bradford and Pat Eslick; Gidley Cup, vegetables, Pat Eslick and Steve Eslick; Lister Trophy, handicrafts, Jill White; Clark-Bond Cup, photography, Frank Dickson and Ann Keelan; Leach Trophy, overall show winner, Jill White. l Pictured left are some of the cup winners at Whitchurch Village Produce and Handicraft Show with Lady Billie Burnett (far right).
