SUPPORTERS and committee members of the Tavistock and District branch of the RNLI attended an evening hosted by Tavistock mayor Cllr Mandy Govier, to commemorate the late Peter Plumb, who was president of the branch.

Peter, who died a few weeks ago, received the RNLI's prestigious Gold Badge for his fundraising services earlier this year from the Duke of Kent at the charity's annual major awards ceremony held at the Barbican, London.

Peter's wife, Sheila, attended the evening in the Rundle Room at Tavistock Town Hall and brought along his award for everyone to see.

Cllr Govier, assisted by the regional manager of the RNLI South West region, Robin Martin, presented silver badges for long service to John Hooper, the current treasurer who is also a past chairman and secretary Jane Huxtable, who has been joint souvenir secretary for more than ten years and is the current secretary, and Gareth Huxtable, current chairman, who has shared the souvenir secretary position with his wife.
