Mixed Summer hockey league Tavistock Tigers 3 DML Superstars 1 THESE two well matched sides were both anxious for a win, for different reasons, as the summer season nears its close. Tavistock started nervously as they allowed DML to attack early on but Glanville in defence making some vital interceptions. As the new midfield partnership of Doney and Cowen got into the game the Tigers began to create some early chances, when Miller and Andrews both went close. Tavistock took the lead after good work from Gaspar who crossed the ball across the ?D? to Evans at the far post, who swept the ball under the ?keeper for her debut goal. The home side took confidence from this and pushed forward but were unable to create any more clear cut chances. Two minutes before half time DML applied more pressure as Tavistock were unable to clear the ball. From a long corner DML equalised from short range as a shot crept in at the near post. The second half saw Tavistock step up a gear and start to get the ball out to the wings more. Firth crossed the ball into a packed ?D? allowing the predatory Andrews to clip the ball into the goal to give the Tigers the lead. A third and final goal came from a short corner. A vicious shot from Gaspar was saved by the ?keeper but fell to Andrews who scored from the rebound. With the game won Tavistock began to play with more impetus, with Viggers and Curnow having less defending to do. An unlucky Andrews missed out on his hat trick when his powerful shot rebounded off the far post right at the death. It means Tavistock are now unbeaten in their last four games.
