Okehampton Columbines 1
Essanians 6
TOP of the league Essanians were the stronger side and ultimately deserved their win.
Essanians? strength was their attack which could be intimidating at times. Sharon Stephens had a good game in goal for Okehampton and made some excellent saves, but there was little she could do about the well-struck and well placed shots that beat her.
Despite the scoreline, the Okehampton defence coped well with the attack. Netty Collett rightly marked the forward who had troubled Columbines in the previous match between the two sides and kept her fairly quiet.
Left back Sandy Douglas was quick to block the attack from the right flank and her free hits found the forwards to get the ball out of the danger area.
Okehampton saw plenty of ball and troubled the Essanians defence, but the attack too often fizzled out without a shot at goal.
Jo Moppet scored from a short corner and was effective on the right wing with her quick and incisive play. Some injury problems and having to come forward to make up the 3-1 deficit after half time left Okehampton more vulnerable in the second half.
This week Okehampton are away to Marjons 3 at Plymouth.
