THE first event of the 2008 Autotest season took place last Sunday in Bedford car park, attracting a large number of spectators. The wet and slippery conditions proved challenging for all competitors in the morning. The local favourite, triple Plymouth Motor Club autotest champion Tony Carver, in the Tavistock Tyre and Exhaust sponsored Mini Special, lost a lot of time in these conditions and had to work hard to gain valuable ground in the afternoon. Unfortunately, he was unable to catch the ASWMC champion, Ernie Burles, who convincingly won the event. However, Tony did win his class with Peter Kelsey, double driving Tony's Mini Special, taking second place. Mike Vosper took a creditable first place in the standard Mini class. Plymouth Motor Club would like to thank Cathy Aubertion of West Devon Borough Council for allowing them to use the car park for the event. The next local round will take place at Bedford car park on July 20.
