THE organiser of a horse ride across Dartmoor to raise money for charity is appealing to people in West Devon and those working in the horse racing world, to make it a winner.

Allen Lewis, commercial manager of Tavistock AFC and secretary of Tavistock Youth Cafe Plus for Special Needs Children, is setting off on Sunday, March 28 with 'three farmers and a nurse' to ride 20 miles across Dartmoor to raise much needed funds for the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.

He said: 'We will start at 11am from the East Dart Hotel , Postbridge and ride across some beautiful wild moor to Tavistock AFC ground for a party and auction.

'All profits will go to the trust and with the incredible work going on with stem cells for prostate cancer, I feel the need to keep supporting this charity which is so close to my heart!'

Allan is appealing to owners, trainers, jockeys and stable staff throughout the United Kingdom to donate a £1 coin from each yard and given to the Bob Champion Cancer Trust.

Allen, who is being sponsored by Tavistock based Hogsbottom Garden Delights, has organised many such events for charity such as 'Upsides for Autism" events that he ran with top horse racing stars such as Martin Pipe CBE, Peter Scudamore and Jimmy Frost supporting him.

In 2009 such events raised £20,000 plus for Bob Champion, Special Needs Children in Tavistock , Help for Heroes and Devon Air Ambulance.

The ride, on March 28, takes place on the anniversary of the death of Bob Champion's much loved racehorse and Grand National winner, Aldaniti.
