PLANNING consent has been granted for an equestrian venture at Bouchers Hill Farm, North Tawton.

West Devon?s planning committee approved plans last week to create eight stables, a sand school plus the change of use of 25 acres of agricultural land for equestrian purposes for Mr M Venner.

Two letters of objection were received from local residents who were concerned about increased traffic and a substandard entrance, but these views were not shared by North Tawton Town Council or the County Highways Authority.

Planning officer John Milverton said in his report to the committee that the site was currently a small agricultural holding, but the owners wanted to use it to exercise their four horses plus operate a further four stables as a small commercial venture to cover costs.

?The objections highlight the fact that the site is constrained and eight stables appears to be at or near the maximum scale of facilities that the site can take without intrusive levels of traffic,? he said.

?For this reason any further development will require planning consent and will be considered on its own merits,? said Mr Milverton.
