THE Moorland Ladies Darts League held their finals and presentation night at the Tavy Club in Tavistock.
Molly Bickell, the league's chairwoman, presented a cheque for £600 to Ann McDonald, Hywel Edwards and Anthony Wates of the Mary Budding Trust — an organisation that helps children with special needs in West Devon.
The league holds three charity events during the season - a quiz night, a darts night and a bingo night to raise money for this cause. On the darts night there were three boards, the winner of board one was M Fisher with W Cann as runner-up; board two was won by C Downham and the runner-up J Mellows; board three was won by G Edge-Downing and S Holmes runner-up. The overall winner of the darts charity night was C Downham of the Royal British Legion (Tavy Club) with a total score of 474, runner-up M Fisher of the Prince of Wales with a total score of 447.
The competition finals were followed by the presentation of the trophies: League winners for 2010/11 were The Prince of Wales, Princetown, runners-up were the Cornish Inn, Gunnislake. Knock-out Cup winners, Cornish Inn, runners-up The Red and Black Club, Tavistock. Singles. S Cork (Red and Black Club) runner-up, G Edge-Downing (Prince of Wales). The doubles, C Jury and J Dean (the Market Traders), runners-up were C Saunders and J Mitchell (the Duke of York, Tavistock). Mixed doubles, G Edge-Downing and M Cole, runners-up were M Fisher and A Steele (Prince of Wales). Threes, J Mellows, M Fisher and G Edge-Downing (Prince of Wales), runners-up A Fone, L Harris and S Wooldridge (Buccaneer Inn, Gunnislake). Fours (a new competition in memory of Brian Bickell, a long time supporter of the MLDL), D Mills-Hicks, B Pysden, J Dean and C Jury (Market Traders), runners-up L Meadows, C Wardle, E Browse and J Sumner (Market Inn, Tavistock).
The Captains Cup, J Dean (Market Traders), runner-up S Freeman (Cornish Inn). The Handicap Cup, the Buccaneer Inn. The Prince of Wales won the awards for the most team tons with 63 tons from league matches and most team wins with 41 out of a possible 66. The award for most individual wins was won jointly by C Jury from the Market Traders and G Edge-Downing from the Prince of Wales, by winning 16 out of 18 singles games during league matches.
The most individual tons, P Phillips (Red and Black Club), 24 tons. Highest shot away, S Holmes (Red and Black Club), with a score of 146. Highest shot out, S Cork (Red and Black Club), 123. Highest score (not including 180), J Mellows (Prince of Wales) 174.
The league gave two awards for a score of 180 to C Downham (Royal British Legion, Tavy Club) and C Jury (Market Traders). Most sporting team, Market Traders.
