A FREE and exciting family fun day is being held at Morwellham Quay this Saturday, to mark both the start of phase two of the Tamar Valley Mining Heritage Project and Archaeology Week. The public invitation includes free entry to the site from 10am, free train-rides into the mine and free horse and cart rides. There will be children?s entertainment in the form of circus skills and storytelling, with Peggy Gendle in her Miner?s cottage and the Welsh sea captain aboard his ship. Visitors will also be able to join in a live archaeological dig. Guided walks around the nature reserve will start from 11.30am to 2.30pm, this will give opportunities to study botany (bugs, butterflies and flowers). There will also be the chance to learn about the planned future developments at Morwellham Quay. Canoe Tamar will be on site from 4.30pm to 5.30pm, offering visitors a free taster trip and rare opportunity to travel along the Tamar River in Canadian canoes. For all visitors wishing to relax, there will be free ferry rides from 5.30pm to 9.30pm running from Morwellham to Calstock. A great opportunity to experience a trip on the valley boat and capture the view. In the evening at 6pm there will be a licensed bar, barbecue and live music until 10.30pm. For those unable to attend the free invitation day new concessionary tickets for families and regular weekly visitors will soon be available. It is hoped that those who visited Morwellham in the past will return to the site for an inexpensive day out for all the family.
