A RUGBY player from Meeth will be hoping to conquer the Canadians after being selected for the England women's under-19 squad to face the North Americans. Jo McBain, 18, who plays for North Tawton, has been chosen for the 30-strong squad ahead of a match with Canada under-19s next year. The team's first training camp will be held at RAF Halton near Aylesbury on January 3. The team will be coached by Giselle Mather (head coach) and Ian Griffin (assistant coach) in preparation for two games at the beginning of April. Jo, who plays at number 8, said Canada would provide good opposition for the English side. She is one of 10 players in the latest squad who was a member of the England party which toured Canada earlier this year, recording one win and one defeat in a two test series against their hosts. Gary Street, England under-19s programme manager, said: 'The England under-19s squad is a very important part of our development programme as we look to the long term development of our players for the next two World Cups in 2010 and 2014.' He added: 'We are looking forward to playing two games against Canada again this season. 'We had a successful tour against them last season and we will once again use these games to test ourselves against one of the strongest under-19s nations in world rugby.'
