?BLACK Voices?, internationally acclaimed singers based in London, will be performing in Devon for just two concerts for Villages in Action in November. And one of the two lucky village venues is St Andrew?s Church, Bere Ferrers on Friday November 10 at 7.30pm. ?Black Voices? have been inspired by Sweet Honey in the Rock, Mahalia Jackson and Take Six, to name a few. From these inspirations they have forged their own dynamic way of distilling and re-presenting black music from a Caribbean, black British perspective. Recently members of ?Black Voices? met with two Devon-based choir leaders Alise Ojay and Roz Walker, to collaborate on songs for local choirs, who will be part of each performance. Both Alise and Roz were thrilled to be able to work with such fantastic singers and a real buzz of excitement has been generated within their two choirs. From Gospel to spirituals, Caribbean to African, jazz and blues, Black Voices are firmly rooted in music that energises and uplifts. Whether exploring the oral traditions of Africa, or modern contemporary arrangements, the group performs its music with feeling and an understanding that deeply touches audiences all over the world. These performances will be truly inspiring and tickets are selling very fast. Contact Anne Turner for Bere Ferrers on 01822 841464, tickets £7.
