TAVISTOCK crashed to a heavy defeat in their last league game of the season.
The first score came straight from the kick off as the visitors tried to clear, the kick was charged down and Joe Gosling dived on the loose ball to touchdown. This shocked the visitors into action and from a ruck five metres out they went over in the corner.
Further tries followed as they put the pressure on and only some tremendous tackles by Tavistock kept the score down. Breaks by Mark Friend and Dan Cunningham came to nothing and the visitors ended the first half with a lead of 19 points.
The second half started brightly for the home side and a tap penalty enabled Dan Oner to get within a couple of metres of the line.
The ball was quickly recycled and fed across to Mark Friend who powered in at the corner to cut the lead. Jez Cramoyson converted.
The visitors hit back with another try before Tavistock enjoyed some possession and pinned the visitors back in their own 22 but could not break through a resolute defence.
Back came Devonport and loose handling and sloppy tackling gifted them more tries.
A great run from his own 22 by Monty Burdfield got him into the visitors' 22 and the ball was worked across the width of the pitch for Dan Cunningham to break through for a try.
This completed the scoring for Tavistock and with them tiring, the visitors ran in some more tries to run out comprehensive winners.
Tavistock now look forward to their forthcoming tour to Holland and on return a cup semi final, and possible final, due to their high finish in the table following a successful season under coaches Will Reed and Shaun Boulton.
