CHILDREN from Horrabridge Primary were visited by comedy duo Toby Hull and Emu last week to celebrate the school's recent achievements. Taking a break from performing in the pantomime 'Peter Pan' at the Theatre Royal in Plymouth, Toby and Emu came to congratulate the school — it has just been awarded the National Basic Skills quality mark, showing that pupils and staff have a good focus on literacy and numeracy. The quality mark is about essential skills children need throughout their lives, such as reading, writing, spelling and number work. Horrabridge Primary has also gained the Devon Healthy Schools Award, which looks at how well the school is doing with regard to the health, safety and well-being of the school community. Becky Crispin, headteacher, said: 'We were delighted to welcome Toby and Emu to our school to help us celebrate our achievements. 'We have worked hard together to gain these awards and we're very proud. I would like to thank staff, pupils, governors, parents and carers and our community for their hard work and support.' Mrs Crispin added that the school has seen improved results this year and has risen significantly in the league tables for Devon Schools. Picture by James Bird
