JULY 2 saw several archers from Tavistock make the short journey into Plymouth to attend the Yelverton Bowmen yearly shoot held at John Kitto College.

Conditions were not ideal for shooting and as this was one of the county selection shoots it was vital all shot well.

Terry Fry was in attendance and put up an indifferent display, not finishing quite where he had hoped. but the same thing happened to many of the other top archers.

Trish Beaver had one of her off days — weather conditions and several equipment failures meant she was unable to finish the round but ensures us all she will be back next time.

However there was some success for the Beaver family and the club, youngest daughter Elizabeth, 20, took part in the shorter national round staged in the afternoon.

She shot well in the weather conditions and came out on top in the ladies' section and in doing so won the Berry Spoons.

Liz has been shooting less than a year and soon we could see mother and daughter fighting for medals on the shooting line.
