mayor of Tavistock David Whitcomb recently welcomed a new youngster to fill the role of the mayor's cadet, who will assist him during various functions.
Eliza Thomas, 17, lives in Tavistock and has been an active member of the Tavistock 2312 Squadron from the age of 13.
The role of the mayor's cadet is to assist the mayor as necessary during civic functions, such as carrying the wreath for the mayor for the Remembrance Day service.
Eliza said: 'I feel very privileged to be chosen as the mayor's cadet for 2010, especially as I am the first Air Training Corps cadet to do so. Hopefully I will be assisting the mayor in a variety of different things and I look forward to fulfilling this role.'
Eliza is currently studying A-levels at Devonport High School for Girls in Plymouth and hopes to go to university to study medicine.
