THE artistic director of the Tavistock Music Festival, Simon Ible will be conducting two events at this year?s five day festival. Simon ? also director of music at the University of Plymouth and a prominent conductor working with orchestras, choirs and opera groups around the south west ?will conduct the professional Ten Tors Orchestra at the gala Concert at St Eustachius Church, Tavistock on Saturday April 30, 7.30pm. The programme includes Mozart?s popular Clarinet Concerto performed by this year?s resident musician Elaine Cocks. Elaine studied at the Royal Academy of Music. She has appeared at the music festivals of Edinburgh, Chichester, Windsor and abroad in Greece. She has also made a number of BBC Radio 3 broadcasts and worked with orchestras including the Royal Philharmonic and Bournemouth Symphony, Birmingham Royal Ballet and English National Opera. Elaine has worked with many West End stars including Michael Ball, Sarah Brightman and Michael Crawford and recently perfumed Mozart?s Clarinet Concerto at St Martin in the Fields, London. Other works in the concert will be Beethoven?s Overture Prometheus, Schubert?s Symphony No.3 and feature Roger Bolton?s evocative tone poem New Dawn-Dartmoor Sunrise. Choral singers of all ages and abilities are invited to spend the day exploring and enjoying singing choruses from JS Bach?s B Minor Mass. Simon describes Bach?s great mass as: ?The B Minor Mass has to be some of the most magnificent music ever composed and the choruses are just brilliant. I hope singers from around the region will congregate in Tavistock and enjoy singing.? The singing day begins at 10.30am and there will be informal performance of some of the choruses at 5pm.
